## Key Takeaways

- A payout that fails or comes back returns to your Steppa balance, and the app tells you with a notification.
- "Payout in progress" means the money is already on its way, so there is nothing to request again.
- Most missing PayPal payouts went to an email that differs from the PayPal login, or are waiting to be claimed.
- A refused bank cash-out usually means a wrong routing or account number: tap Change on the bank card and fix it.
- If a PayPal or bank payout is still processing well after a day, email support@playsteppa.com.

When a Steppa cash-out goes wrong, the money almost always sits in your Steppa balance or comes back to it. A failed payout never just disappears. Find the message or situation you're seeing below, and each section says where the money is and what to do.

## "Payout in progress"

If the Cash Out button reads something like "$40.00 payout in progress", your payout is already on its way. The amount still counts in your Total Balance until it's sent, and Wallet, Balance Activity lists it as "Pending payout". Nothing is stuck, and you don't need to cash out again.

The Cash Out screen says PayPal payouts usually arrive within 24 hours. A US bank transfer stays processing until Steppa confirms it with its bank partner, and you'll get a "Payout Sent!" or "Payout Failed" notification.

## The Cash Out button won't send

Three things block a cash-out:

- **Under $25.** The minimum payout is $25, and a smaller payout is never sent.
- **Promo credit.** Promo credit can be spent on entries but never cashed out. While you hold some, the Wallet tab shows how much is eligible for cash out right under your total balance, and Balance Activity shows the split.
- **Payout limits.** Every account can cash out up to $500 in any 24 hours, $2,000 in any 7 days, and 3 times in any 24 hours.

## "Daily payout limit of $500 exceeded"

Over the limit, Steppa normally sends as much as it allows and keeps the rest in your wallet. You only see this message when what's left under the limit is below the $25 minimum. The limit frees up as your recent payouts pass the 24-hour or 7-day mark, counted from each payout, not from midnight. Failed payouts don't count toward it. If you need more than the limits allow, email the team.

## "We couldn't send money to this bank account"

Before your first bank cash-out, Steppa's bank partner checks your saved US bank details. This message means it refused them. Nothing left your wallet.

Trying again with the same details fails the same way. Tap Change on the bank account card, fix the routing or account number, and cash out again. A routing number is nine digits, printed on a check or shown in your bank's app. "That's not a valid routing number" means the nine digits you typed aren't a real routing number.

## Your PayPal payout hasn't arrived

Go through these in order:

1. **Check the email.** PayPal pays the address saved under Wallet, Payment & payout methods. It has to be exactly the address you log in to PayPal with.
2. **Claim it.** If that address has no PayPal account, or you've never logged in to PayPal with it, the money waits there unclaimed. Sign in to PayPal, or sign up, with that exact address and accept the payment. PayPal emails that address about it, so check your spam folder. An unclaimed payout still shows as processing in Steppa.
3. **Wait for a return.** PayPal sends an unclaimed payment back after about a month. It comes back to your cashable Steppa balance, so you can fix the address and cash out again.
4. **Fix your PayPal account.** If PayPal refuses a payout, for example because your account can't receive payments yet or needs verifying, the money comes back to your balance and the app says the payout failed. Sort it out on the PayPal side, then cash out again.
5. **Check fees.** If less arrived than you sent, the difference is PayPal's own fee or a currency conversion.

Steppa can't redirect or pull back a payout that already went to an address, so double-check it before you send.

## "Payout Failed"

The money is still in your balance. The failed payout stays listed under Wallet, Balance Activity with its amount struck through, and it doesn't count toward your Withdrawn total. Tap the notification to open that screen. On current app versions, the failed row repeats what to check before you cash out again.

## "Payout Returned"

A bank can send a payout back days after it went out, usually because the account details are wrong or the account is closed. The amount comes back to your cashable balance, normally within a few hours of the bank returning it. Check your bank details on the Cash Out screen before you cash out again.

## A message about the fee

- **"The fee for this payout changed. Check the new fee and confirm again."** The fee moved between your review and your tap. Nothing was sent or taken. Tap Cash Out again to see the new fee.
- **"This payout now has a fee that this version of the app cannot show you."** Update Steppa from the App Store, then cash out again. An app too old to show a fee is never charged one.

## You're outside the US

Bank transfers need a US bank account. Use PayPal, which works internationally and handles most Steppa payouts. Steppa's team doesn't set up international bank transfers by hand and never collects bank details by email.

## When to email support

Email support@playsteppa.com, or tap Email, the last row under Help & Support on the Profile tab, if:

- a PayPal or bank payout is still processing well after a day
- a payout shows as sent, the address is right, it isn't waiting to be claimed, and it still hasn't arrived after a couple of days
- your bank details are right but a bank payout keeps failing

The team reads it Monday to Friday. Never send bank numbers, card numbers or passwords by email. You only ever enter those on the Cash Out screen.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Why is my Steppa payout still pending?**
A pending payout is already on its way. The Cash Out button shows it as in progress, and it stays in your Total Balance until it is sent. The Cash Out screen says PayPal payouts usually arrive within 24 hours. A bank transfer stays processing until Steppa's bank partner confirms it. If one is still processing well after a day, email support.

**My PayPal payout says sent, but I don't see it. Where is it?**
Check that the PayPal email saved in Steppa is exactly the address you log in to PayPal with. If that address has no PayPal account, the money waits there unclaimed: sign in or sign up to PayPal with that exact address and accept it, and check your spam for PayPal's email. Unclaimed payments come back to your Steppa balance after about a month.

**Why did less money arrive than I cashed out?**
On PayPal, the difference is PayPal's own fee or a currency conversion. If a Steppa fee applied, the confirmation showed it and the amount you would receive before you sent the payout. A standard US bank transfer has no Steppa fee.

**Why can't I cash out my whole balance?**
Either part of it is promo credit, which can be spent on entries but never cashed out, or you hit a payout limit. The limits are $500 in any 24 hours, $2,000 in any 7 days and 3 payouts in any 24 hours. Steppa sends what the limit allows and keeps the rest in your wallet for later.

**Can I get paid to someone else's PayPal?**
No. The PayPal account has to be in your own name. Payouts to a partner's, a parent's or a friend's PayPal aren't allowed, and the team doesn't make exceptions.
