## Key Takeaways

- WeWard is free: you convert each day's steps into Wards before midnight and cash them out by PayPal, Venmo or bank transfer once you have saved enough.
- RunMatch estimates WeWard pays about $1.75 to $3 a month at 10,000 steps a day.
- Steppa asks for a stake and a service fee; finish every day and you split the whole pool, miss one and you lose the stake.
- WeWard runs on iPhone and Android; Steppa is iPhone only and reads Apple Health.
- Choose WeWard for a slow, risk-free trickle of cash; choose Steppa when you want money behind a short step goal.

---

If you want a free app that slowly turns everyday steps into a little cash, WeWard is the safer choice, and it runs on Android too. If you want a stronger reason to hit a step goal and are happy to put a stake on it, Steppa pays the whole pool to the people who finish, on iPhone.

WeWard is one of the few walking apps that pays real cash rather than only vouchers, which makes it the closest reward app to Steppa. The gap is risk: WeWard never takes your money, and Steppa can. We make Steppa, so we have kept to what WeWard's App Store page and independent reviewers say, with every source linked.

## Wards, tiers and the midnight deadline

WeWard reads your steps from the phone or a connected source such as Apple Health, Google Fit or Fitbit. Each day you convert them into Wards before midnight, and steps you don't convert are lost. WeWard does not publish its tiers; reviewers report about 1 Ward for the first 1,500 steps, climbing to a ceiling of about 25 Wards a day from walking. Games, challenges, collectible cards, surveys and partner offers add more.

The app is free, with ads. Premium costs $5.99 a month, or $39.99 to $46.99 a year on the App Store, and removes the ads. The App Store listing also flags simulated gambling and loot boxes among WeWard's extras, and the app asks for location permission.

## A stake on every day

Steppa skips the points. You join a challenge, pay the stake, and reach the shared daily goal every day until it ends. Days run midnight to midnight in your own time zone. Miss one and you are out, and your stake stays for the finishers. Official challenges mostly run one to two weeks, often just three days, and a challenge you create with friends can run 5 to 180 days at 5,000 to 50,000 steps, for a stake of $10 to $1,000.

## What the money looks like

WeWard first. Reviewers report that about 2,050 Wards cash out for $15. RunMatch estimates $1.75 to $3 a month at 10,000 steps a day, and The Budget Diet puts a year of walking at $10 to $40. RunMatch also says you can't cash out in your first 14 days.

Now a made-up Steppa challenge. Ten friends each stake $25 on a 14-day challenge, and eight of them finish. The $250 pool splits eight ways, so each finisher receives $31.25. They each paid a $1.50 service fee to join (for most players $0.50 plus 4% of the stake, shown before you pay), which leaves them $4.75 ahead. The two who missed a day lose $26.50 each.

So a finisher makes in two weeks roughly what WeWard pays for two months of walking, and a player who slips loses about a year of WeWard earnings.

## Getting paid, and the complaints

WeWard's payouts are real but slow. Some reviewers say a payout takes weeks to arrive, and some App Store reviewers report accounts suspended or rewards refused at cash-out with little explanation. Others say their money did arrive. An official Ward-to-cash rate and minimum are not listed on their site as of October 2026.

Steppa settles at 12:00 UTC two days after a challenge's last day, and winnings appear in your in-app balance. Send them to a US bank account, with no Steppa fee on a standard transfer, or to PayPal, which also works for players outside the US; any PayPal fee is on screen before you confirm.

## Steps and trackers

Steppa reads every step from Apple Health on your iPhone and never counts them itself. An Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, Oura or Whoop works if it syncs there, and steps typed in by hand never count. WeWard takes steps from more places, including Android's Google Fit, which is a real advantage if you don't use an iPhone.

## Who each one suits

WeWard suits you if you:

- want a little real cash for walking, with nothing to lose
- use Android, or want to mix steps with games and surveys
- don't mind ads and waiting months for a payout

Steppa suits you if you:

- want a goal that costs you something when you skip it
- would like a payout within days of a challenge ending
- are on iPhone with a tracker that syncs to Apple Health

WeWard's users must be 18 or older, according to The Budget Diet, and so must Steppa's. Paid play on Steppa depends on local law; it is available where its [Terms](https://legal.playsteppa.com/terms) allow.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**How much is a Ward worth?**
An official Ward-to-cash rate is not listed on their site as of October 2026. Reviewers report that about 2,050 Wards cash out for $15 by PayPal or Venmo, which works out to well under a cent per Ward. Walking alone tops out at about 25 Wards a day, and RunMatch estimates $1.75 to $3 a month for someone who walks 10,000 steps daily.

**Can I cash out WeWard to PayPal?**
Yes. WeWard offers cash-outs by PayPal, Venmo or bank transfer, as well as gifts and charity donations, once you reach the threshold. RunMatch says you cannot cash out in your first 14 days, and some reviewers say payouts take weeks to arrive. Steppa pays winnings into your balance when a challenge settles, and you request a payout to PayPal or a US bank account yourself.

**Why was my WeWard account suspended?**
We can't say for any one account. Some App Store reviewers and The Budget Diet report accounts suspended or rewards refused at cash-out with little explanation, while other users say their payouts arrived, if slowly. If you depend on WeWard for small cash amounts, read its terms and keep your account details consistent. Steppa's money rules are published in its Terms, linked on this page.

**Is WeWard or Steppa better for walking more?**
It depends on what moves you. WeWard rewards every day you walk, and reviewers say it pays more as you add steps, up to about 25 Wards a day, with nothing lost if you rest. Steppa only pays if you reach the goal on every day of a challenge, so the pressure is higher and so is the cost of missing. Some people walk more for a small daily reward, others for money they could lose.

**Does WeWard work on Android?**
Yes. WeWard has apps for iPhone and Android and can read steps from the phone, Apple Health, Google Fit or Fitbit. Steppa is iPhone only. It reads steps from Apple Health, so a watch or tracker counts as long as it syncs into Apple Health on your iPhone, and steps typed in by hand never count.
